Coach Lucas still cares about this team, anyone close to him knows that. Although you may not believe it but there are more important things than winning a championship, some people actually care about the team. And so why would she choose to hire a coach that went 0-8 in the regular season last year? Why not choose one of the men that helped rebuild this program and knows the team and its players? Answer me that.

Why on earth would you want to let Coach Lucas decide??? He took a job at another 6A school, which now makes him potential competition for the state championship! Why would he want someone in there who can coach and take "his" trophy??? Think people!
And as far as Ms. Peoples having the last say ... she's the principal and need to make sure that who ever gets hired is not only qualified to coach, but also complies with the rules and regulations set forth by Fayette County. This isn't Pop Warner where all you need to coach is love of the game. |

Yes i just recently heard the news, although he was not the vote of anyone who cared he was Mr. Barnes vote. To the Defenders who are left with this situation, stay strong and remember this is yo ur team now. It's sad to see 4 years of hard work destroyed in one foul swoop.

So I know that there is a new coach to be named monday, but I have a question about this whole situation. It says that Dr. Peoples is to be the one to name the head coach, why is this? Why should should someone who knows little of the game of football, knows less about the players and nothing about the struggles and adversity that the Defenders have had to face? Here's an idea let someone who actually cares about the team be the one to choose it's new coach. Let Coach Lucas or even the players decide who they want the head coach to be. Sure they had a few people that knew the team on the board to interveiw the coaches but ultimately it comes down to the decision of two people who care more about the money the team brings in than how the team feels or even how many games the team wins. Since the team unfortunately does not get a vote in the process, here is the vote of one. Promote from within, chose one of the assistant coaches otherwise the 4 years of hard work used to turn this team around will be in vain. I don't know for certain who the head coach will be but I have a good idea of who the administration will choose. Good luck with next year Defenders.
